Congratulations to the 2008 John Marshall Foundation Teacher Award Winners
 
The Foundation recognized excellence in teaching the United States Constitution to middle and high school students in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Foundation presented a $2,500 award to Ms. Rachelle S. Hawkins-Wesson and Ms. Renee Serrao, each of whom have demonstrated their knowledge of and enthusiasm for the United States Constitution as evidenced through activities inside and outside of the classroom.   From left to right: John Marshall Foundation Board President James W. The John Marshall Foundation is currently seeking nominations for the 2009 John Marshall Foundation Teacher Award.

Who may qualify

Any public or private middle or high school classroom teacher in Virginia who has been teaching for a minimum of five years is eligible for the award. Each nominee must submit a personal statement that relates his or her teaching to John Marshall and his legacy. Click here for eligibility and criteria.

About the The John Marshall Foundation Teacher Award
This annual award recognition began in 1989 as one of the Foundation’s first educational programs to honor outstanding secondary school teachers for their demonstrated knowledge of and enthusiasm for the United States Constitution as evidenced through activities inside and outside of the classroom.

The John Marshall Foundation was founded in 1987 by a group of dedicated lawyers, The Virginia Bar Association, and the APVA Preservation Virginia, the organization that owns, operates and interprets the John Marshall House so that the visiting public may learn more about the Great Chief Justice, his contributions and his family life in Richmond.
